A PARALYMPIC silver medallist was one of several special guests as Blacon High School toasted a fine celebration evening last week.

Former Blacon High student and cycling medallist Rik Waddon presented several of the awards handed to 52 deserving students.

Mr Waddon also spoke of his own achievements in cycling.

Another former student of Blacon High School, Ashley Field, who won a silver medal for football in the World Summer Games in Athens, presented the award for best newcomer in Year 7.

The Lord Mayor Cllr Pamela Booher and the Lady Mayoress Julie Knight shared in the celebrations, along with other guests including Mark Parkinson, head of achievement and wellbeing at Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Blacon High School headteacher Sue Yates said: “I am very proud of all these young people and their achievements and recognise the fantastic support they receive from parents/carers and the staff here at school.

“This has been a golden year for our school and reflects what can be done when there is high expectation, ambition, determination and partnerships.”
