Shoppers in Chester city centre had a lucky escape when a shop's signage crashed on to the pavement during high winds on Saturday (January 10).

A sign from the shop front of GAME on Foregate Street fell off at around midday.

Julian Wetherall said: "I walked passed the shop called Game and literally ten seconds after I had passed I heard a crashing sound and I turned around to see that all of the signage had fallen into the pavement - how it didn't kill anyone I do not know particularly at midday on a Saturday!"

The Chronicle has attempted to contact GAME for comment.

A woman was killed in Blackpool on Monday evening (January 12) when a Waterstones shop sign fell on her.

Bookseller Margaret Sheridan, 68, from Lancashire, was pronounced dead at the scene.
