A RURAL primary school has been awarded a prestigious arts award for the fourth consecutive year.

Staff and pupils from Shocklach Oviatt Primary School are celebrating another year of being awarded Artsmark status, a national flagship programme that enables schools and other organisations to celebrate their arts and cultural provision.

Spearheaded by Arts Council England, the accolade demonstrates that the school values the arts and culture as well as raising its public profile across the community.

Sarah Fenwick from the school said: “Shocklach are delighted that for the fourth year running we have been awarded the Artsmark Gold.

“The arts play a major role in the education of all the children with many opportunities for them to work with artists through dance, music, creative writing and art.

“The children also take part in a variety of residential visits including one to London where they visit the Globe Theatre and the Tate Gallery,” she added.
