A PRIMARY school is awash with activity with a change at the top and success on the sporting front.

The new headteacher at Shocklach Oviatt C of E Primary School, near Malpas, is Jane Hopkins.

Mrs Hopkins takes up the full-time role at the school, having previously worked three days a week since February and the other two days being the deputy headteacher at St Joseph’s, Winsford.

She has taught in many schools from nursery through to Year 6, including several church schools.

Mrs Hopkins said: “I am looking forward to getting to know the local community over the coming weeks and months and would welcome you into school if you would like to come and introduce yourself.”

There has been plenty of change at the school in recent months. Christmas saw the retirement of Elaine Connor, who had worked at the school for many years.

Last Friday saw the farewell assembly held for Jill Mackay, who also retires after many years teaching at Shocklach.

Andrea Hough is also leaving at Easter and the school wishes her lots of success in her future teaching career.

Meanwhile, the school has appointed two new teachers. Christopher Sear and Jacqui Bevan are experienced and will bring a wealth of talent with them.

They both came into school before the end of the Easter term to ensure there has been a smooth transition and handover of information.

Elsewhere, the school’s netball team performed brilliantly in a five-team tournament held at Bishop Heber High School.

Shocklach won every match to take overall honours in the competition.
