CITY centre litter bugs could be in for a shock.
A tenacious councillor is to take to the streets with a hit squad to tackle the problem.
The hard hitting enforcement campaign, due to take place next month (November), was revealed to the full city council by environment portfolio holder Cllr Jill Houlbrook (Con, Upton Grange).
Cllr Houlbrook was involved in last year's whirlwind campaign to improve the condition of the council's public toilets.
She told councillors the enforcement days “rain or shine” will see officials and the council's street cleaning staff out and about in the city centre with herself.
“We are going to pour all the resources we can into the city,” she emphasised.
The campaign will focus on education and prevention but Cllr Houlbrook added: “Where necessary we shall issue a large amount of fines.
“We shall be trying to focus people’s minds on please don't drop your litter, keep Chester tidy.”
