THE new High Sheriff of Cheshire took his place in history on Wednesday after taking part in a nomination ceremony in London that dates back to Saxon times.

William Gordon Fergusson, from Tarporley, will assume one of the oldest offices under the Crown of Britain.

Judges and court officials gathered in London’s High Court in this ancient ceremony. The formal nominations of the 51 High Sheriffs and their deputies took place as part of a time honoured tradition.

Mr Fergusson will be attending a meeting of The Privy Council in London, before assuming office next March.

Dwelling objection

FRODSHAM Town Council has objected to plans submitted to Vale Royal Borough Council to build a detached dwelling at 56 Townfield Lane.

Town councillors claim the proposal would be overdevelopment and out of keeping with the area.
