OCTOBER is the month when Chester’s literati get their cultural top-up via the city’s literature festival.

But this year the festival has a new name – the Shell Chester Literature Festival.

Shell UK has in past years been a part-sponsor of the festival but this year the company decided to take on the umbrella sponsorship in similar fashion to the Guardian newspaper taking on the Hay-on-Wye literature festival.

Shell’s five-figure deal with Chester Festivals was struck during the summer as festival organisers were putting the finishing touches to an exciting line-up for this year’s event, which runs until October 24.

Edward Brady, Shell’s regional PR manager, said: “This initiative demonstrates our commitment to supporting our local communities. The festival is a really special occasion on the Chester events calendar and we want to increase our association with it.”

This year’s festival presents an assortment of colourful and thought-provoking events. The company is a long-time sponsor of the city’s music festival as well as principal sponsor of three annual athletics events.

Tickets for the events are available through Chester Festivals box office on 01244 304618.
