CHRISTIANS in Cheshire will be gathering in Chester Cathedral on Sunday to celebrate the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which was first held in the USA in 1908.

The service, which begins at 3.30pm, will be attended by Church leaders, clergy and congregations from all over the county.

The preacher is the Rev Bill Snelson, the general secretary of Churches Together in England, and the theme is Pray Without Ceasing.

Mark Thompson, county ecumenical officer for Churches Together in Cheshire, described the service as an opportunity to celebrate faith and reflect on Christ’s call to his followers to be united.

“We will be considering how, as churches, we are becoming more engaged with the challenges of justice and peace, the future of the planet, and the need to offer hospitality to the growing numbers of strangers arriving in our communities.”

Also taking part in the service will be Cantabile, the children’s choir from Overleigh St Mary’s CE Primary School in Chester.
