Six cars were involved in a multiple vehicle collision on the A55 southerly bypass near Chester triggering major congestion.

The accident happened just before 8am today, Wednesday, October 9, near Huntington on the south-bound carriageway causing one lane to be closed.

Traffic backed up along the A55 from its junction with the A41 (Sainsbury’s roundabout) to the junction of the M53 and the M56 and beyond. There was also congestion on the opposite carriageway between the A483 and the A41 caused by ‘rubberneckers’.

Traffic was heavy going in to Chester and along the A51 up to the Tarvin roundabout.

Dave Harris of the Highways Agency hoped traffic would clear by around 10am.

Jacqui Hanson of Cheshire Police said there were no injuries. North West Ambulance Service and the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed that neither attended.
