A BiG Storage staff member raised the alarm when he spotted smoke coming from the garden of a Sealand Road house this afternoon (September 2).

A fire in a wheelie bin had spread to a nearby fence at the Chester home at around 3.20pm.

Two fire crews from Chester used a high pressure hose reel to put the fire out and a thermal imaging camera to ensure it was totally extinguished.

BiG Storage Chester employee Jeff Banks said: "It looked like barbecue smoke at first and I went over to see if anything else was going on and saw the flames on the fence."

Firefighters were unsure as the cause of the fire.
