THE gates have opened on a Chester school.

The new electronic wrought iron gates at The Firs School, Newton were officially opened by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Chester, Cllr James Latham and Hilary Latham.

The gates are the final addition to the school’s newly-designed front entrance.

Headteacher Margaret Denton said: “Two years ago, the school celebrated its diamond jubilee. As part of the commemoration, we redesigned the school entrance taking into consideration a number of road safety concerns.

“The parent’s committee, the Firs School Development Fund, raised the money to provide the gates which have been designed to incorporate the school’s logo of three fir trees.”
