WORK has begun to introduce Frodsham College pupils to Helsby High School ahead of the college’s closure in one year.
About 150 Frodsham pupils will join Helsby in September 2009 after the school is closed.
This week, Year 8 pupils from both schools joined up for team building exercises, including circus skills, fencing, lacrosse, basketball, drama, and rugby.
Other preparations include expanding the canteen, the libraries and building a new IT room, two science class rooms and a disabled lift.
Headteacher Richard Evans said: “With the positive attitude that was displayed this week they can all look forward in confidence to working with each other from September 2009 when the pupils from Frodsham become part of our school community.”
Former Frodsham High School head boy Stephen Smith, 17, moved to Helsby to study for his A-levels.
Stephen, a community prefect, said: “It’s a great thing the schools are getting together and trying to bridge the gap. I worked with both sets of teachers and it’s valuable to see things from both schools’ perspectives.”
Helsby Deputy Head Julia Carey said: “This was only the start of the programme. We will have lots of other activities during the year and hopefully we will continue to allay any fears and overcome any problems the pupils may have.”
