ABBEYGATE College's headteacher has appointed the school's senior prefect team for the last time.

Edward Mitchell, 60, is retiring at the end of the summer term after 15 years at the school.

He said a highlight of his time had been dealing with well-intentioned young people and added: 'I still feel about 33 because of working with such nice youngsters over the years.'

In honour of Mr Mitchell, the governors have decided to name the school's new Arts and Media Centre after him.

He said: 'I am really pleased to have this lasting memento.'

Edward is married to Jane and the couple live in Waverton. They have two children, Sarah, 26, who lives in New Zealand and Tom, 24.

The couple are planning an extended trip Down Under in the autumn.

Pupils, staff and governors will pay tribute to Mr Mitchell at a gala concert at the school.
