RESIDENTS have hit out at a plan to build 114 homes on their estate.

They say the Halton Brook scheme will see the felling of more than 300 trees.

However, the council's development control committee has approved the application by Inspired Developments.

Approval was granted despite an 85-signature petition from residents in Halton Brook who said the development would:

* Lead to an increase in traffic

* Attract anti-social behaviour

* Lead to loss of green space and a reduction in the quality of life for existing residents

* Increase noise pollution

They also say it goes against the objectives of the New Town development.

Resident Pete Jinks said: 'Trees which were planted to replace ancient woodland are to be felled themselves. It is this loss of legacy which we most oppose.'

A council spokesman said: 'While such loss is regrettable, it is, however, considered that the wider benefits of the scheme outweigh any harm resulting from the loss of green space and trees.'
