LEGENDARY James Bond star Sir Roger Moore has joined the e-petition on Chester.com to Save the Odeon.

Sir Roger, who lived in Chester for a short time during the Second World War, says: ‘When I was sent to join my mother in Chester during the height of the London Blitz, I continued my romance with cinema and Hollywood at the Chester Odeon.

‘I love cinemas, particularly the wonderful art-deco Odeons. To think that the one in Chester might forever be lost to a nightclub or other such venue saddens me greatly.Š

‘IŠwholeheartedly lend my support to the campaign to save it.’

As part of the famous Odeon circuit of cinemas built up by Oscar Deutsch, the Chester and York Odeons had to be specially designed because of their historic surroundings

In August 2006 the York Odeon closed but was re-opened after a hugely successful public campaign.

It is hoped that with enough support, the Chester cinema closed earlier this year can re-open too.

BLOB Chester MP Christine Russell, who launched the e-petition on chester.com, is holding a public meeting on Thursday, September 27 at St Mary’s Centre, by County Hall, at 7pm. All are welcome to attend.
