A MARKET is opening on Saturdays due to popular demand.

Saughall local produce market used to run during the week but will now be open on Saturdays from 9am-noon.

It takes place at the Vernon Institute, Saughall, selling a wide range of local produce.

Produce on offer includes: Backford Belles Home-Made Jersey Ice Cream, Organic Welsh Black Beef from Patrick Noble, 35 different varieties of fresh vegetables from John Jones, hand-made Italian-style cheese from Anne Connolly, gold medal winner in the British Cheese Awards 2008.

Also on sale will be lamb, traditional pork from old breeds, and buffalo from John Sigsworth, all reared on his farm, free-range eggs from Ian Lloyd, Huxley, hand-made Cheshire cheese from John Bourne and his family, made from their own milk, and much more.

The market organisers are also aiming for a barrel a week of their favourite local beers.

So far they have Weetwood’s Old Dog, Eastgate Clock and its new brew Mad Hatter.

Adrian and Roger set up their microbrewery in the barn on Roger’s farm, near Oscroft.

The market will run on a Saturday, starting this week, January 16.
