A WOMAN left in a coma after a moped crash in Gibraltar has regained consciousness and is back in Chester.

Samantha Fisher, 20, was airlifted from a hospital in Cadiz, Spain, on Monday and taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Miss Fisher, of Crossley Crescent, Hoole, is said to be doing well.

Countess of Chester Hospital spokesman Andrew Duggan said: “A 20 year-old female being treated at the Countess is in a stable condition.”

She had planned to spend four months in Gibraltar with boyfriend Craig Pejic, of Guilden Sutton, when, on June 4 – two weeks into the stay – she was involved in the accident.

It left Miss Fisher fighting for her life in an induced coma and her parents flew to Spain to keep vigil at her bedside.

The couple had rented an apartment in La Linea, just over the border in Spain.

Miss Fisher worked on the leisure centre reception at the Mollingon Banastre Hotel, where she planned to return as well as attending college on her scheduled return in September.

Leisure centre manager Ricky Chard said: “She’s doing a lot better. She’s definitely on the progression side.”
