ASPIRING sports science and dentistry students have been appointed head boy and head girl at a rural high school.

Sam Green and Giorgia Paoloni are the new holders of the positions at Bishop Heber High, Malpas.

They were elected by fellow sixth formers and teaching staff.

Sam is studying A levels in maths, biology, geography and sports studies.

He has represented the school teams in rugby, frisbee, cricket and tennis and would like to go to Bath University to study sports and exercise science.

Giorgia is studying A levels in chemistry, biology, maths and psychology and has played in the school netball team. She is hoping to study dentistry at Liverpool University.

Sam and Giorgia with their deputies, Michael Connor and Kate Farmer, will work with the sixth form committee to organise charity events and sixth form socials.

Their year of office will see them supporting all school events by acting as ambassadors on occasions such as open day, the Year 6 intake day, Christmas service and whole school assemblies.

The sixth form committee for 2008-2009 includes Jasper Alexander, Mary Howell, Gemma Jones, Peter McGee, Kate Mapstone and Tom Ruffell.

Gemma Dodd, who has recently been appointed as head of sixth form, after her role as head of Year 12, will work closely with the new committee to develop and build on the good work previous committees have completed.
