CYCLISTS in Saltney are being urged to make sure their bicycle is secure with a new range of bike-marking workshops.
The workshops follow from the success of the town’s inaugural bike-engraving session held in St David’s High School.
The workshops see bicycles marked with a unique piece of identification, such as a postcode, with the aim of deterring thieves as the stolen bicycles can be more easily tracked down.
The three sessions will take place on Friday, March 18.
Saltney police community support officer Dan Hughes said: “This is an attempt to reduce the number of bike thefts in Saltney and bordering areas.
“Some very specialised and expensive bikes have been taken, many even when they seem to be securely stored in sheds and garages. By marking your bike, this makes it easily recoverable if stolen but found.
“It should also act as a deterrent to thieves and I aim to hold more of these sessions over the coming months.”
Workshops will take place in St David’s Retail Park from 9-10am, in Morrisons from 10-11am and in Saltney Ferry Community House from 11am-noon.
