A CHARITY’S bid to transform the grounds of the Countess of Chester Hospital is beginning to bloom thanks to a city supermarket’s floral donations.

The Chester Childbirth Appeal is hoping to raise nearly £50,000 to create an outdoor playground and sensory garden for children and parents to enjoy.

The fund has been given a £1,000 boost by Sainsbury’s Caldy Valley, which has donated flowers to the appeal. These have been passed on to Countess of Chester facility users in return for a small donation.

The appeal was set up in 1991 to support the hospital’s maternity unit and has gone on to fund a post-natal ward sitting room, café courtyard, water birth suite and feeding room.

Director Pat Daniels said: “Readers will be aware of how hard we have worked to make the visits of women and children to the Countess of Chester Hospital that much more comfortable.

“We are much indebted to Sainsbury’s at Caldy Valley Chester for the support they have given us over the last 21 years of our existence.”
