BIG hearted supermarkets raised more than £3,500 to pay for a new wheelchair for a top table tennis player.

Sainsbury’s stores in the North West and North Wales raised £3,682.88 to pay for a new competition wheelchair for Scott Robertson to use in table tennis events.

Scott, 35, hopes the new chair, which will be specially made in the USA, will boost his success rate in competitions. He has been using a wheelchair since the age of 11 because of his brittle bones.

Scott is currently ranked in the top 12 table-tennis players in Britain. If he can retain his place among the country’s elite he will qualify for the paralympian squad.
