A LOWER speed limit could be introduced on part of a rural road in Capenhurst.

Capenhurst Lane has a 30mph limit through the main part of the village, Chester's highways and transportation local joint committee was told in a report.

A further 520m length of the road, including the entrance to Capenhurst station, has a 40mph limit.

There is then a national 60mph limit for 480m from the station to the Ellesmere Port and Neston borough boundary towards the A41.

In view of the record of personal injury accidents on Capenhurst Lane, a review had been carried out and the 30mph and 40mph restrictions found to be appropriate, county and city councillors were told.

A 30mph limit is already in force from the A41 to the borough boundary and requests had been made for a lower limit between there and the station.

Although the road did not meet the county council's requirements for a lower limit, engineering locality manager for West Cheshire, Charles Lloyd, said these did provide for a 40mph limit.

This is because the distance between the 40mph limit at the station and 30mph limit at the borough boundary was less than 600 metres.

Capenhurst & Ledsham Parish Council has been informed of the proposal.

Mr Lloyd recommended the extended 40mph limit should be advertised for public consultation and this was agreed by the committee.
