FIREFIGHTERS are hoping to take fundraising to the next level by running two marathons while carrying a fire service ladder.

The fire crew at Runcorn’s White Watch will set off from Chester Fire Station on Friday, May 28 and will aim to cover a total of 58 miles.

The crew will travel through Frodsham, Runcorn, Stockton Heath, Warrington, Widnes, Hale, Speke, Allerton and Liverpool Docks, ending in Liverpool.

Volunteers, including wives and girlfriends of the crew members, will be helping along the way by collecting funds.

Money raised will be going to two good causes – the Fire Fighters Charity and Help for Heroes. Crews are aiming to raise at least £5,000 for each charity.

Firefighter Mark Jones said: “Every 30 seconds in the UK, firefighters are called to an incident, putting their lives on the line, and often sustaining physical injuries whilst carrying out their duties.

“The Fire Fighters Charity is for firefighters during their times of need, by providing pioneering treatment and support services.

“We also want to raise as much money as possible to help injured soldiers; we feel it is an extremely worthwhile and important cause.”

Fire crews will be led into each station area by the respective fire engine.
