Halton Borough Council employee Martyn Platts, 55, died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision on the approach to Runcorn Bridge, shortly after 4pm.

Martyn's wife Pam Bradley, who works at Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “Martyn was one of life's truly special people. He was a real gentleman with a heart of gold.

“He loved his life, his family and his friends and was cherished in return.
