THE doors have been opened to the Royal Oak in Kelsall after a multi-million pound refurbishment.

The former pub, known previously as The Oak, has been converted into a unique restaurant and 14-bedroom boutique hotel, with each room given its own royal theme.

The restaurant opens to the public today (Thursday) while builders are expected to complete work on the accommodation by the autumn.

Manager Paul Sweeney, who will run it with partner Rachel Jones, on Chester Road, said: “When we first arrived this place was in a state of disrepair and it was overgrown.

“But we are hoping that people will come here whether they just want a meal or whether they are having a party, going to Chester races or holding a meeting.

“We are very excited about the future.”

The large building boasts a fully-refurbished open plan restaurant, lounge area and a private ‘King’s Room’ dining/ meeting room.

Each large bedroom on the two floors above will be en suite with a royal theme attached to it such as Richard the Lionheart, Queen Victoria and King Henry VIII.

There are also unconfirmed plans to build a medieval dungeon in the Royal Oak’s cellar to host children’s parties.

The Punch Taverns development is aimed at blending eating out and staying over with history.

“People are welcome from today and they can expect a modern British menu providing quality food cooked by award-winning chefs at affordable prices,” added Mr Sweeney.
