A GIANT Queen Elizabeth will be at the forefront of Chester’s Carnival of Giants this weekend to mark the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty’s coronation year.

The Royal figure, in military dress complete with a sash and a medal, has been on display with another female giant, a giant sunflower and a giant banana in the main square of the Northgate retail development for several weeks.

The giants will be moved out of the centre to take part in the Carnival of Giants which begins on Sunday.

Thousands of spectators are expected to line the route to watch 60 giant figures make their way through the city.

After the carnival a new line-up of giant characters will go on display in the main hall of the forum.

Forum centre manager Lawrence Allen said: “We’ve had a wonderful giant display in the centre since before Christmas and our valued customers seem to really appreciate them.

“Groups of shoppers often take a break in the seating alongside the giants display and their conversations inevitably turn to the giant characters that have been created by the experts at Chester the Giant City.

“And of course the children are fascinated by them.”
