A PLEA is being made for people to walk the walk in aid of the Cheshire branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL).

The sponsored 5km walk, being led by representatives of the 1 Mercian Regiment, will take place at Oulton Park Race Track on Sunday, September 11, from 10am.

Organisers say they are struggling to get people to take up the challenge and are appealing to Chester residents to put their best foot forward for the good cause.

Julie Dove, community fundraiser for Cheshire, said: “In this, the Legion’s 90th anniversary year, we hope to raise £90m to fund projects such as the Battle Back Centre

“Our Battle Back Centre is a state-of-the-art facility that we’re creating and running in partnership with the Ministry of Defence as part of our commitment to the defence recovery capability for wounded, injured and sick service personnel.

“It will be a national centre of excellence for adaptive sport and adventurous training designed to accelerate physical, psychological and social recovery of injured service personnel.”

Those willing to take part in the sponsored walk must register their interest by calling Doreen White on 01829 771 386 or emailing doreen.white253@btinternet.com.
