A TEENAGER is to rub shoulders with royalty after landing the title every air cadet in Cheshire yearns for.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Warwick Gerber, 17, has been appointed as the Lord Lieutenant's Cadet.

Over the next 12 months he will assist the Lord Lieutenant for Cheshire, Colonel William Bromley Davenport, at service functions and parades across the county.

As many of the functions will involve royal visits to the county, the Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School sixth former is preparing to come face to face with a Windsor.

Warwick, who is a member of the Staffordshire wing of the air training corps based at Flat Lane, Sandbach, said it is an exciting role.

'I haven't had any dates confirmed yet but I expect some of the occasions throughout the year will involve members of the Royal family,' he said.

'I will wear a badge of appointment and accompany the Lord Lieutenant at special occasions. I will be there to help and assist him.

'I was ecstatic to be made Lord Lieutenant's Cadet. It felt really good when I was told and I am really excited.'

The appointment is rotated between Air Training Corps, Army Cadet Force and Sea Cadet Corps.

The citation for his appointment was read by Colonel Gerry Wells-Cole, chief executive of the Cadets Association for the North West.

Warwick, who lives at Middlewich, received his badge and certificate of appointment from the Lord Lieutenant at a ceremony at Fox Barracks, Chester, watched by father Werner, mother Lynn and younger brother James. He hopes to join the force after finishing his A-levels.
