OBJECTIONS have been raised to new zebra crossings proposed in Chester's suburbs.

The crossings are planned on Plas Newton Lane near the entrance to Upton by Chester County High School and the County Officers Sports Club and on Wealstone Lane near the junction with Plas Newton Lane.

Chester's area highways manager Colin Stredder says there have been six objections to the zebra on Plas Newton Lane and two to the Wealstone Lane crossing.

Backing the proposal, the high school points out more than 800 students leave the school by the Plas Newton Lane entrance and the crossing would also help many users of the sports centre.

The headteacher at The Firs school believes the Wealstone Lane crossing will be beneficial to the community and hopes to use it by instigating a walking bus to and from the car park at St Columba's.

At a County Hall meeting on Thursday, January 24, Mr Stredder is due to recommend to county and city councillors that the crossings should be approved.
