A TEENAGER who was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of four is appealing for donations to help cancer sufferers.
Christopher Jones, 16, of Rossett, has been off treatment for eight years and is now asking companies and schools to join in a Caps on 4 Cancer day to raise money for four cancer charities.
Christopher was diagnosed with non Hodgkins Lymphoma when he was four and then Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
He said: “I had chemotherapy every day for three years and was registered disabled because I couldn’t walk due to the treatment.
“I lost my hair three times and during this time collected more than 100 hats and caps.”
Now, as part of the training for his silver Duke of Edinburgh award, he is asking people to don a cap and make a donation on May 1.
The money raised will be split between Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Oncology Unit, where Christopher was treated, Cancer and Leukaemia in Children (CLIC), Children Cancer Support (CHIC) and the Ronald McDonald House, all organisations which Christopher says played a vital role in his recovery.
Darland High School, where Christopher is a pupil, is already set for the hat-wearing day along with some other schools in the Wrexham area and the housing department of Wrexham County Borough Council.
He said: “Please put your cap on and help me say thank you to these wonderful charities.”
He is also appealing for donations of items to be auctioned off in September.
