A KNIFE-WIELDING robber got more than he bargained for when he was sentenced to four years behind bars at Warrington Crown Court.
Steven Michael Beswick, of Windmill Hill, Runcorn, was sentenced for an attempted robbery in Runcorn.
The offence took place on Monday, December 12, last year. Beswick, 22, entered a store on Portland Street at 8pm where he threatened staff with a 10-inch serrated knife and demanded money from the till.
After being challenged by staff he fled empty handed.
Beswick was arrested by officers within half an hour of the offence while on his way home, was charged, and pleaded guilty at crown court.
Det Con Sven Talbot, of Halton police said: 'The length of this sentence reflects the seriousness of the incident which left the shop owner shaken.
'We would not advise people to confront someone carrying such a weapon.'
