A major road has reopened following a recovery operation after a car went down an embankment near Saughall .

There was disruption for motorists earlier today (Tuesday, February 9) when the westbound carriageway of the A5117 was closed by police about 8.45am to allow the vehicle to be retrieved.

The road was blocked off at its junction with the A540 Parkgate Road/A494 but reopened about 11am.

A diversion had involved motorists driving up the exit slip road, across the A540 bridge and back down the entry slip road.

The accident happened about 6.30am.

Cheshire Police spokeswoman Rachel Hayes said the male driver appeared to be uninjured and no ambulance was called. He claimed an HGV had been involved in the incident but had left the scene
