BIG-NAME comedy acts are coming to Chester.

The Laugh Inn club is to play host to US comic Rich Hall and rising star Josh Widdicombe in the upcoming months as the Station Road venue seeks to repeat the successes of last year.

Rich Hall, who performs on March 11, is renowned as a grouchy, deadpan, comic genius who has appeared on Live at the Apollo, QI and Saturday Night Live.

Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer nominee Josh Widdicombe, who will be at the mic on May 1, has also appeared on Live at the Apollo, as well as Channel 4’s Stand Up For The Week.

Doors open at 7pm, with the shows beginning at 8pm.

Laugh Inn owner John Locke said: “The reputation of the Laugh Inn has been going up as a first-rate comedy club and it’s great they are coming here.

“Rich Hall is a favourite of mine and Josh has performed here before on the same night he was on about three different TV shows.

“We have had our teething troubles as we have come up to our second birthday but generally people see the big picture, which is that we are attracting these big names and all these acts which you wouldn’t have otherwise seen in Chester.

“It’s not easy out there but the performers who come here love it and the customers usually love them too, as we also offer the chance to see some comics on their way up.”

Previous big-name comics to appear at the Laugh Inn have included John Bishop, Michael McIntyre, Russell Kane, Jason Manford and Sarah Millican, all of who made an appearance in 2012.

Other performers to star at the comedy club, which opened its doors in February 2011, include New Zealand act The Boy With Tape on His Face and funnyman Russell Kane.

While the club principally holds comedy nights on Friday and Saturday nights, music events have also been held, with the upcoming Back 2 Indie Rock night on February 23 featuring live music from Idle Frets.

Mr Locke added the club also has the ability to host theatrical productions.

“People are going around saying there isn’t a suitable theatre in Chester, but we have a 350-seat facility right here,” he said.

Tickets are still available for both gigs. To book, call the Laugh Inn on 0800 6129714 or visit www.ticketweb.co.uk.
