CHESTER’S Rhino Mania event is gathering pace as new sponsors give their backing to the popular event.

The rhino stampede includes up to 70 fibreglass rhinos placed across the city between June and September.

More than 90 Cheshire West and Chester schools are adorning the 2ft-tall beasts to go on display alongside up the larger versions to form a tourist trail across the city.

Chester Zoo safari ranger Becca Biddle is working with primary school children as they design their own rhinos and raises awareness about the majestic creatures and their environment.

Katie Wild, Chester Renaissance project co-ordinator, said: “The event is gathering speed, with artists starting to create their designs in painting spaces and studios all over the county.

“Sponsors are also continuing to give us their incredibly generous support, with Double Tree by Hilton, Merseyrail and Hickory’s Smokehouse joining the impressive roll call of rhino adopters.”

She added: “We can’t wait to see the rhinos out on the streets and for the excitement to really begin.”

How would you like to decorate your own section of a rhino? Percy the People’s Rhino is kindly donating his entire surface area to the public, so you can sponsor an area of it to create your own design.

Percy will then be covered from horn to hoof with your designs and proudly put on display in Chester from early July to mid-September.
