At last! We now know why a spooky Plague Doctor has been roaming the streets of Chester .

City-based heritage and archaeology company Big Heritage have confessed that the recent sightings of the mystery hooded figure, which has caused a social media storm over the last few days, is connected to a secret project the firm are launching this summer.

Dean Paton, Big Heritage's managing director, said: "We admit it. It’s us! We’ve been carrying out some discreet filming around the city centre for a new project which we’re keeping under wraps for now, but that we hope will wow the city this summer.

"The plague doctor outfit has been put away for now but I’m sure the doctor will see you again soon enough."

The eerie sightings of the cloaked man brandishing a walking stick and mask have scared a number of people. But it was part of some undercover filming for the project, which Big Heritage will not reveal more details about until next month.

However, they promise it will be one of Chester city centre's first new visitor attractions for years.
