RESIDENTS will soon discover whether a £5.7m rendering plant will be built on their doorstep.

But first they hope to have their say at a public inquiry on September 26.

Harrison’s Poultry want to replace their processing facility at Senna Green Farm, Antrobus, with a much bigger facility at Thellow Heath Farm, a mile away.

Residents’ group PEACE – Please Ensure Antrobus’ Clean Environment – has campaigned against the plan from an early stage.

A concerned villager said: ‘It is usual the inspector will hear residents and we want to get across our views on the terrible smell and traffic nuisance.

‘Vale Royal have summed up our concerns well in their report, though.’

Harrison’s are appealing against an enforcement notice. They claim they have carried the processes already for 10 years and are therefore entitled to continue with a ‘certificate of lawfulness’.

Vale Royal Borough Council say they have not.

PEACE spokesman Ian Bailey told the Chronicle in June: ‘Harrison’s claim they process 600 tonnes a week, but we say they’re doing 30 tonnes a week.

‘That is their justification for having to move to the new site.’

Harrisons convert poultry byproducts into pet food at the plant.

Residents report powerful, unpleasant smells emanating from Senna Green.

Harrison’s Poultry says the facility would create and keep local jobs, support a well-established family business and solve the problems of noise and odour associated with Senna Green, which would then be converted into housing.
