WILLASTON people want police to keep up the good work when it comes to tackling nuisance youth problems.

That was the message from members of the public who went along to the most recent Community Action Meeting (CAM).

Residents and representatives from Ellesmere Port & Neston Borough Council and the local Home Watch group heard that local officers have been targeting specific individuals since nuisance youth problems were first selected as a priority in April.

The work has been having an impact and reports of anti-social behaviour have been on the decrease.

Community Action Team officers PCs Paul Nolan and Anthony Owens are leading the CAM process and will report back to residents in a few weeks' time.

PC Nolan said: 'Residents were happy with the feedback. However, they feel they would like us to continue focusing on this area which is what we will do.

'We have a number of investigations ongoing into public order offences and I am confident these will result in a successful conclusion.

'We are working with schools and agencies such as the Youth Offending Team to ensure we are being as effective as we can in dealing with these problems.'

Nuisance youth issues are just one area being focused on by agencies in the community. Concerns about road safety are also being addressed.

PC Owens said: 'Cllr Myles Hogg informed the meeting of a few developments in respect of highways projects. There are some improvements to pedestrian facilities on Hadlow Road and Hooton Road and two Speed Indicator Devices in the pipeline for the village.'

PCs Nolan and Owens are Neston-based Community Action Team officers. They can be contacted by calling the dedicated CAT phone line which is a permanent answer phone service. The number is 0845 458 6373 and it enables callers to leave messages for officers regardless of the time of day or if there's no-one in the office to take the call.
