An abandoned car left parked on a residential road for five months has been branded a ‘terrible eyesore’ by an angry Chester resident who has to walk past it every day.

The woman, who did not wish to be named, is at the end of her tether after several attempts to get local authorities to move the abandoned large BMW that was hastily parked over two parking bays near her flat on Albion Place in the city centre during the summer.

The vehicle is covered in bird droppings, looks extremely unsightly, and is attracting the wrong impression, the woman told The Chronicle.

“It’s become the main tourist attraction and I’ve reached the end of my tether really,” she said. “I see people commenting all the time on how bad it looks, it’s a terrible eyesore and a target for crime and vandalism.

“I’ve spoken to the council and been passed from pillar to post. I’ve even contacted the non-emergency police number but the car’s taxed, and until it’s vandalised they won’t do anything.

“Everyone around here is aware of it; even the traffic wardens who have done as much as they can. But I didn’t know they are powerless to do anything after they’ve given three tickets to the same car. That gives you immunity apparently,” she added.

“The tickets are all shrivelled, and pigeons are swarming around it. I don’t want to be seen to go near it.

“I love living in Chester and I know there’s often crime but something like this attracts the wrong impression. It’s meant to be this idyllic tourist attraction and something like this can be prevented.”

A Cheshire West and Chester Council spokesperson told The Chronicle: “There is very little to say at the moment other than we’re working very closely with the police to try and track down the owner of this car.

“We’d like to assure the resident that there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to bring this case to a resolution and action is being taken.”
