HUNDREDS of lights decorate trees on the Countess of Chester health park following the hospital’s annual lighting ceremony.
The trees of light and the hospital books of honour help people celebrate and remember their loved ones at Christmas. They are invited to add the name to the book and to sponsor a Christmastide light on the trees of light.
Attending the event was the Sheriff of Chester, Cllr Andrew Storrar and his lady Cllr Jeanne Storrar.
Music came from A Handbag of Harmonies with their pink feather boas and Chester Wind Band.
The proceeds from the annual trees of light appeal are used to improve the care and support offered to patients and relatives at time of bereavement. During the year the appeal has contributed to the development and refurbishment of the hospital’s spiritual care centre which is used by many patients, relatives and members of staff.
This is also where the books of honour are permanently displayed and fresh flowers are provided by the appeal.
It has also enabled further bereavement training for hospital staff to help them care for patients and grieving relatives in the most effective way at what is also often a difficult time for the members of staff involved.
This year the proceeds of the appeal are being used to enhance the viewing suite in the chapel of rest.
