LISTED building consent was sought for work to a detached thatched grade two listed cottage on the Grosvenor Estate probably dating from the mid 17th century.

The application was made at The Old Post Office, Stannage Lane, Churton.

The black and white cottage had been used for domestic purposes since it had been built, according to the estate.

No objections were raised by conservation specialists at the borough council who felt the materials would relate well to the character of the single-storey property.

The work would help to sustain the heritage asset, planners believed and would have regard to the features of special historical and architectural interest it possessed.

The application was recommended for approval and the borough council agreed the refurbishment could have permission.
