Statement of Tyler’s sister Cody Denton

In a statement, Tyler’s sister Cody Denton told how she had “suffered multiple stab wounds to my face and body”.

“I have never been told the exact number of injuries which I suffered as medical staff said that they lost count, there were so many,” she said.

Her injuries meant she had been unable to feed, wash, change, shower or go to the toilet by myself for some time and had to rely on family members for help.

“It was specifically bad after the attack, but I am still feeling the effects now, still have limited hand movement in both my right hand and left arm. I am still receiving medical treatment for my hand,” she said.

'Tyler didn't get the justice she deserved', say family

Temporary DC Laura Griffiths read out a statement on behalf of the family.

Tyler didn’t get the justice she deserved. It should have been a longer sentence, but he’s been put away, and can no longer destroy another family, as he has ours.

We now have the challenge of rebuilding our lives with a piece of us all missing.

Mr and Mrs Denton would also like to say thank you from the bottom of their hearts, to the family and friends and the people of Rhyl for their support and kind words.

As well as a big thank you to Rhyl and Kinmel Bay Football Club for their support and help during this tragic time and especially to North Wales Police and the family liaison officers, Sarah and Laura, for all their help. Thank you all very much.

Bickley held a 'deep concealed jealousy' over Tyler's relationships with friends and family

Police have made a statement following the sentencing of Bickley.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Kelly said:

This trial was brought about following the murder of Tyler Denton and the attempted murder of her sisters and father; Cody Denton, Shannen Denton and Paul Robert Denton in the front garden of a house in on Saturday 9th September 2017.

The accused, Redvers James Bickley was infatuated with Tyler and held a deep concealed jealousy for her successful relationships with her family and friends. On that Saturday night in September, whilst the three sisters and a friend were having a fun night in, Redvers attacked them with a knife in the house they shared.

As the girls fled into the street seeking help he followed them and continued his attack resulting in the tragic death of Tyler. When Mr Denton arrived to assist his daughters he too was viciously attacked and seriously injured whilst bravely disarming Bickley

Bickley sought to put the family through a trial on the basis of diminished responsibility but the jury did not accept that basis and Redvers Bickley has today been sentenced to a minimum of 30 for the murder of Tyler and attempted murder of Cody, Shannen and Paul Denton.

Reason why Bickley killed may never be known

The judge, Mr Justin Picken, asks Bickley why he stabbed Miss Denton and her family.

Tyler Denton had been a very good friend of yours...you lived together...you were like a brother and sister...so why did you do what you did?

“Another suggestion was that you were acting out of fantasy....on your version of events you wrote things on the dictation of your alter ego, James.
