Praise from Cheshire West and Chester Council

Young people across Cheshire West have been celebrating today (Thursday, August 25) after receiving their GCSE examination results.

More than 3,300 Year 11 students from across 19 academies and secondary schools took part.

Provisional data shows that 79% of 16-year-old students in those schools in the borough gained a GCSE in English at grade C or above. This is an increase of 7% on this time last year.

In mathematics, 72% of 16-year-old students in those schools in the borough gained a maths GCSE at grade C or above. This is an increase of 3% from last year.

Cheshire West and Chester Councillor Nicole Meardon, Cabinet member for children and families, said: “The anxious wait for today’s results is over for the young people involved and so although we can only compare with last year’s figures for English and maths separately, clearly there has been improvement.

“I would like to thank the pupils, teachers, all school staff and parents for all their hard work and send my best wishes to the young people as they choose their next step of further education, apprenticeship or employment.”
