Roadworks on a major route going out of Chester will cause disruption to traffic next week as delayed works are carried out.

The Chester outbound carriageway of Liverpool Road will be shut between 9.30am- 4pm from Tuesday May 31 from the mini roundabout by Total Fitness to Abbots Park for footpath resurfacing on that section.

However, it is anticipated the project will only take about three days and the dates have been switched from the previously planned May 16 closure so the disruption will occur during the half term school holidays. The Chester inbound carriageway will remain open.

Reconstruction and kerbing work was carried out on the same section earlier this year but the latest phase is to lay down a slurry seal. The one-way closure is to allow safe working.

A Cheshire West and Chester Council spokesman said: “The one-way closure on Liverpool Road is for footway improvement works – a new thin surface will be applied to the footway to improve its condition.

“It will be necessary to implement a one-way system to ensure access for plant/materials and the safety of the operatives carrying out the work. The works have also been restricted to 9:30am to 16:00hrs only to help reduce the impact on the travelling public at peak periods.”

The diversion route, starting near the Fountains roundabout in Chester takes motorists off Liverpool Road, down the A540 Parkgate Road into Countess Way and back onto Liverpool Road at Morrisons roundabout.
