A 'FOR The Children By The Children' event held on Thursday at Nantwich Civic Hall involving Crewe churches proved a huge success with 172 children taking part.

A packed audience enjoyed watching different dance groups and were visibly moved by presentations showing the plight of children around the world helped by Crewe-based charity, the Railway Children.

The event, led by Nantwich Elim Church, was organised by churches across the area including Market Street United Reform, St Mary's Church and West Street Church working in partnership over the last six months. The aim was to involve local children in doing something positive to help others, raise funds and awareness.

The show included performances from Fraser School of Irish Dance, Market Street United Reform, Nantwich Elim Church, Nantwich Methodist, North Street Methodist, the South Cheshire Theatre and Ballet School, St Mary's Church, West Street Church, Wistaston Junior School and Wyche Primary School.

There was also a puppet show and auction of sports memorabilia where all proceeds went to the charity.

The event has raised approximately £1,800 for the Railway Children charity which was formed in 1996 and works to make early contact with children living on the streets before they fall into the wrong hands. They work with partners across the globe to provide education, shelter, healthcare and above all friendship.
