MERSEYTRAVEL says it will ensure the national 24-hour strike called by the RMT tomorrow does not derail travel plans for the Open golf tournament in Hoylake.
Senior Network Rail staff not involved in the dispute will operate duties normally under-taken by RMT members and Merseytravel will fund a fleet of 30 buses for shuttle services between Hoylake and Liverpool, Chester and Birkenhead.
On Friday, services on the Wirral Line will start at 5.30am and will be operated on a 15-minute frequency until about 8pm, after which the shuttle bus will operate until 10pm.
From 6.30am on Saturday, shuttle bus services to Hoylake from Liverpool, Chester and Birkenhead will start from 6.30am. Services on the Merseyrail Electrics' network will start at 9.20am due to safety regulations.
Merseyrail will again operate a 15-minute service throughout the network until normal closedown at about 11pm.
The Merseyside Traveline has extended its opening hours and is increasing staff numbers to deal with additional enquiries. From today until Sunday, it will be open between 5am and 8pm. The number is 0870 608 2608.
