BARROW Church of England Primary School was runner-up in the Cheshire Schools Quirky Container competition.

Schools were asked to plant unusual items along the theme of recycling.

Visitors to the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show were asked to vote on the best entry.

Barrow Church of England Primary School’s entry, Daisy’s Day Out – a fully planted children’s tractor driven by a cow – was hugely popular.

Kris Hulewicz, RHS Flower Show manager for Tatton, said: “The competition was a great opportunity for schools across Cheshire to engage their pupils with gardening, the great outdoors and the issues of the environment and sustainability.

“Congratulations to Barrow Church of England Primary School with their winning entry. The imaginative display was a clear hit with the public during show week and we hope the children involved will be inspired to continue growing in the future.”

Mr Hulewicz presented a glass trophy and £50 of gardening vouchers to the school.

Stephanie Heard, head of the Green Team, a group of volunteer mums at the school who helped the children put the project together, said: “We are very proud of the children and delighted at what they have achieved. They have been involved in a project that has helped them engage with gardening and environmental issues, and they have received a reward at the end of it.”
