A year 6 pupil from Queen’s Lower School has made a big sacrifice after hearing that her hair could help a cancer sufferer have a happier life.

Hannah McDonald, of Cuddington, cut 32cm off her hair for a Canadian charity called Wigs for Kids. They make wigs for children who are suffering hair loss for a variety of reasons – burn victims, those with alopecia and overwhelmingly children who have cancer. There is a great demand for hair, particularly children’s hair, as it is untreated.

While the charity can’t give out the personal details of who the hair went to, Hannah knows that it is heading to a girl who has said that ‘she finds the loss of her hair more painful than her medical treatment’.

Headteacher Rachel Cookson said: “This was a wonderful gesture from Hannah who is doing what she can to help a little girl going through a difficult time. We all hope the new wig improves her quality of life and that her treatment is successful.”
