THE Queen’s School is top of the league when it comes to the sixth form.

The girls’ independent school, on City Walls Road, was ranked first place in the A-level table for independent schools in Cheshire.

Headmistress Sarah Clark said: “We are delighted that our students have done so well this year.

“They have worked very hard to gain this success and we are immensely proud of them. We look forward to welcoming them back to school in the future to hear of their achievements at university and in their careers.

“It is also important to recognise the support, inspiration and care that they have received from their parents and the staff at The Queen’s School. We try hard to create an environment in which our students can flourish and it is very pleasing to see so many young women leaving us with such great results behind them.”

The league table is based on data from the Independent Schools Council and lists independent schools according to their performance in A-level and AS-level results only.

Schools are ranked by the average Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) points score per candidate for students taking two or more A-levels, excluding General Studies.

Queen’s School girls attained an average score of 407 points, with pupils at The Grange School in Hartford achieving second place with 390 points. The King’s School, on Wrexham Road, is in fourth place with 377 points.

UCAS gives 140 points for an A-level A* grade down to 40 for an E. AS-level points start at 60 for an A.

Results for the International Baccalaureate, the Cambridge Pre-U and other qualifications have not been included.
