PARENTS of girls at The Queen’s School have raised thousands of pounds for school development at a ball at Chester Racecourse.

More than 300 guests enjoyed the Texan-themed Oil Barons’ Ball organised by the QSPA (Queen’s School Parents’ Association), with a Dallas-style cabaret with a Sue Ellen Bourbon bar, a Texas ‘shoot ‘em up’ game and line-dancing from the school staff.

There were fundraising opportunities throughout the night including a heads and tails game sponsored by Brabners Chaffe Street solicitors, a raffle and two auctions. The event was also sponsored by Wirral-based Mason McLean dry cleaners and Chester-based Andy Foster Architects.

The winner of the £2,000 Boodles Shopping Experience plus lunch at the Chester Grosvenor raffle prize was Jill Donnachie from Ness.

Live Auction prizes included an hour with TV football pundit and former England and Liverpool footballer John Barnes; a race experience donated by Boodles and Michael Owen; a luxury short break holiday to Madeira, donated by Iceland Foods, in association with Mirus Journeys and a pamper session donated by Hobbs, Chester and The Hair & Nail Spa.

Headteacher Sarah Clark said: “We’re very grateful to the work of the QSPA and all the parents who came along to make the night such a huge success.”
