Students and lecturers from the University of Amsterdam received a warm welcome at Queen’s Park High School on Friday as part of a five-day visit to the UK to look at British culture and education.
The 35-strong group were led by Jess Penning who contacted the school in October last year to arrange the visit.
The majority of the group were trainee teachers of English who were fascinated to talk about the work of the school’s students and teachers. Many commented on the effective use of questioning to promote student learning and progress.
The Dutch visitors were also keen to find out why the QPHS students wear uniform.
As part of its morning the group had the opportunity to meet headteacher Lyndsay Watterson, teacher Matt Yeoman, head boy Matt Stoltzer and deputy head boy Daniel Depuis.
Matt said: ‘“it was fascinating to meet teachers from a different culture and talk about how their students experience learning – whilst our culture and language might be different, the core values of teaching and learning are really quite similar.”
The exchange of cultures and ideas culminated with a traditional English buffet.
